Tirebolu Faculty of Communication
The Tirebolu Faculty of Communication embraces the integration of its academic activities with the community and making a direct contribution to the social and cultural development of its region as an institutional responsibility. In this regard, partnerships established with local institutions and community-oriented projects form the foundation of our faculty’s social contribution initiatives.
Partnerships with Local Institutions
The Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema signed external partnership agreements with the Tirebolu District Directorate of National Education and the Tirebolu Youth Center in March 2026. Under these agreements, initiatives in media literacy, visual communication, and career orientation for young people in the district are planned. The Journalism Department also signed an external partnership agreement with Giresun İleri Newspaper, paving the way for students to gain field experience through collaboration with the local press.
“News from Tirebolu!” Journalism Project
The “News from Tirebolu!” project, launched under the sponsorship of the Tirebolu Environment, Culture, and Tourism Association, is a social contribution initiative inviting Journalism Department students to document Tirebolu through its newsworthy dimensions. Students documented the district’s history, cultural memory, and daily life through written and video news categories. The project stands out as an example that enhances the visibility of the local community while bringing journalism education into the field.
Social Memory and Social Responsibility Events
Our faculty demonstrated its sensitivity to social pain by organizing a screening of a commemorative documentary on the anniversary of the February 6, 2023, earthquake. The meeting held with members of the Giresun Photography Art Association (GİFOD) serves as an example of cultural events co-produced by civil society and the university.
